New Music Thursday 08.08.13

A little later than usual (we’ve been busy ok) however here are some of the tunes we just can’t get enough of!

1. London Grammer – Wicked Game (Chris Isaak Cover)

London Grammer have been on a bit of a streak, releasing a b-side earlier this week in lieu of their upcoming UK only EP, Strong, building towards their debut album release on September 9th. They cover the Chris Isaak classic and while not deviating much from the original they manage to energize the classic with all of the expected bells and whistles.

2. Ruth Koleva – Better

On 26th August, Bulgarian singer Ruth Koleva releases her brand new single, ‘Better’ – her first official single in the UK. Taken from her upcoming album, due early next year, ‘Better’ showcases Ruth’s understated, soothing vocals on top of a lush production, courtesy of Dutch composer, Seravince. Evoking late 80s and early 90s acid jazz, it’s soulful, polished and laidback – a combination of jazz, funk and nu-soul.

3. FKA Twigs – Water Me

The experimental stylings of New York producer Arca comes through on this new art pop single from London based singer,  FKA Twigs. Enjoy!

4. MGMT – Your Life Is A Lie

Now we’re getting what seems to be MGMT‘s first single – a sludgy, two minute psych-rock ditty called “Your Life Is A Lie.” It’s accompanied by a quasi-lyric video (they’re all the rage in 2013) that is both hilarious and a little disturbing.
