You’ve probably heard of this lot somewhere along the line. Eat More Cake are London-based songwriter/producers Andy Briggs and Matt Pearn. They’ve remixed people like David E Sugar, One eskimO, Avatars, and The Milk, and done wonders with the Stardust classic ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and Bob Marley’s ‘Is This Love’.
And now, on Sept 19, they are taking the unique step of releasing two 6-track EPs on the same day. Entitled ‘Climb The Ladder, Live The Dream EP1 + EP2’ it’s part classic down-tempo, part electronica, complete with massive melodies, café del mar guitars and hip-hop beats.
Highlights? Well, there’s EP1’s soulful opener ‘You’ll Be There,’ the 90s laidback trip-hop of new single ‘Smoke & Mirrors,’ and the lushly string-led (courtesy of the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra) ‘Story of My Life.’ Meanwhile, EP2’s Massive Attack-like ‘Glass Houses’ ponders the evolution of man (no less) over some dubsteppy bass and impressive electric guitars, and ‘Music Box’ is a call to arms to a disengaged generation: “Told yourself you’d never do what they do – thought you’d change the world, but the world changed you.”
The band have already won fans at the likes Radio 1, 6Music, KISS and XFM and have appeared on Hed Kandi compilations ‘The Mix’ (UK) and ‘Serve Chilled’ (US). On stage, they’re known for some quite fab parties too – at Proud Camden, The ICA, 93 Feet East, and Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, to name a few. Look out for a host of live London supports toward the end of the year.
Oh, and the brilliant promo video for ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ will be unveiled next week. Watch this space.
